Music has always been a huge part of my life. I started my college journey as a piano major, and my love for music has only grown stronger over the years. Some of my favorite composers are Bach and Beethoven, whose music never fails to move me with its beauty and complexity.
As an elementary classroom teacher, I was always looking for ways to incorporate music into my lessons. I taught my students how to play the recorder and facilitated many music programs and concerts. It was always amazing to see the many gifts and talents that my students had, and to witness the joy and excitement that music brought to their lives.
Even today, music continues to play a big role in my life. My day starts with music during my quiet reflective time, which helps to set the tone for the rest of my day. I find that music has the power to soothe my soul and lift my spirits, no matter what challenges I may be facing.
As someone whose roots are in the Caribbean, I also have a great love for reggae and calypso music. These tunes always take me back to my childhood in St. Vincent and remind me of the warmth and vibrancy of the culture there. And of course, I can’t forget to mention my love for Ed Sheeran’s song “Perfect” – it’s a beautiful and romantic ballad that always brings a smile to my face.
Music has the power to unite us, to bring us together in a shared experience of beauty and emotion. I’m grateful for the role that music has played in my life, and for the way that it has enriched my journey. Whether you’re a fan of classical music or reggae, pop or rock, I encourage you to embrace the joy and wonder of music in your own life. You never know what new experiences and discoveries it might lead you to.
