There’s no denying it…life can be challenging.
Between the demands of your professional life, the stresses of running a home, and all the misfortunes that can arise at a moment’s notice, it’s easy to slip into a rut and stay there for a while. Being a grown-up is not easy.
Yet some people seem to shine, no matter what. They make friends quickly, they have good work/life balance, and they don’t seem to have a worry in the world. How do they do it?
It’s simple once you know the secret: Happiness is found through the intentional act of moving toward what you want, and letting go of what you don’t. Moment by moment. It’s not always easy, but as we’ve already discovered, being a grown-up isn’t easy. Play it right, though, and it can be enormously rewarding.
Here are a few simple ways that you can move toward happiness every single day.
- Find What Inspires You
To be inspired is to be full of life. Once you find it, it will drive you. Motivate you. Fill you with passion and purpose. For some it’s the arts, animals, or being in service of those in need. For others it’s building businesses, making money, or improving the quality of a product or service.Do you know what excites you? You know you’ve found it by the unmistakable lift you feel when doing it.
- Lose the Baggage
You can’t move quickly when you’re carrying shame or regret. However, it’s very difficult for your brain to move away from one thing if it’s not moving toward something else. Fill your calendar with appointments you WANT to keep…classes, conversations, your laptop and a coffee shop. Do what you love and you’ll have no time for all that draining drama that drags you down.
- Be Grateful, Not Grumpy
When your life is not entirely to your liking, it’s easy to bemoan your misfortune. Stop it. Instead, express gratitude for all your experiences, lessons and blessings. Everything is happening for your ongoing evolution, and life is undoubtedly unfolding in your favor…especially when it seems otherwise.
You deserve a happy, joyful life. It’s your birthright. However, like all birthrights, you must claim it. Follow these simple steps, and I promise that being a grown-up will get a whole lot easier.
